Why Locals Love ZUR PFALZ Restaurant
Situated in the heart of Udon Thani’s Tambon Nong Na Kham, ZUR PFALZ Restaurant offers an authentic slice of Germany right in northeastern Thailand. Specializing in traditional German cuisine, this cozy yet spacious eatery invites diners to savor hearty classics prepared with genuine care and quality ingredients.
The menu, though thoughtfully concise, boasts standout dishes that have quickly won the hearts of both locals and expats alike. The Sauerbraten paired with Klöße (German potato dumplings) embodies comfort food at its finest — tender, richly marinated beef enveloped in a luscious, tangy gravy that perfectly balances hearty and savory flavors. Another highlight is the Rinderroulade served with Spätzle, a dish that transports you straight to the rustic taverns of Germany with its tender rolled beef and delightfully buttery soft noodles. Beyond these specialties, portions are impressively generous, satisfying even the most robust appetites, as numerous guests have attested.
Feedback from patrons emphasizes more than just the food. Daniel Atkinson, a delighted visitor, praises the speed of service and authenticity of the flavors, noting his German brother-in-law’s approval as a testament to the restaurant’s genuine approach. Karl Knurr appreciates the quality reminiscent of home-cooked meals, stating that while the prices reflect the quality, every baht is well worth it. The friendly and approachable ownership adds an additional warm layer to the dining experience, making visitors feel welcomed from the moment they step inside.
Dining at ZUR PFALZ is not just about the food—it’s about ambiance. The setting exudes a relaxed, welcoming vibe where you can unwind and enjoy a meal that truly feels like a celebration of traditional German culinary heritage. It might be a bit off the beaten path, but the journey is well rewarded with every bite and every smiling interaction.

Really good German food - approved by my wife's German bro-in-law. The portions were enormous and served quickly to the table. It's a little bit further out but well worth your time! The gravy was really nice as well. We'll be back regularly!
